Cascara Sagrada

Cascara Sagrada is sold in most pharmacies in Jamaica.  The name means sacred bark in Spanish. This herb is primarily used as a laxative for those suffering from constipation. The elements in the herb induces peristalsis (contraction of the large intestines thereby producing a bowel movement.
Cascara is a very strong herb when used in tea form. When preparing the tea I suggest adding a piece of ginger. The ginger may ease the griping that may occur. It works well when taken before bedtime. If you are not used to it drink a few teaspoons at first.

Cascara Sagrada may help to tone and help with the flow of secretions from pancreas, liver and stomach.

Always start with a low dose and avoid indulging in it too often. A diet loaded with fiber can counter constipation. But if there is an issue drink a little Cascara Sagrada tea.

Make sure to stay hydrated.
Please consult your physician before using.
